Charlotte Christmas Village ran a European-style holiday market in Uptown for seven years. It no longer does. Its two shops, Village Bakery and Hans & Heidi's Holiday Haus, now sell inside Light the Knights at Truist Field. To get to them this year, you buy a ticket for one of the festival's open dates.
As a result, Uptown's 2026 season splits into two kinds of events. Light the Knights is ticketed and has limited capacity. The parade and a four-day market on Tryon Street are free. Both kinds start on the evening of Wednesday, November 25, and the dates when each one is open or closed shape the rest of the calendar.
| Event | Where | 2026 dates | Cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Light the Knights | Truist Field | Nov. 25 to Jan. 3, select dates | $14.37 admission, $44.40 all activities |
| Novant Health Thanksgiving Eve Parade | Tryon Street | Wed., Nov. 25 | Free, $40 VIP bleachers |
| Uptown Holiday Market | Legacy Union Plaza, 620 S. Tryon St. | Dec. 2 to 5 | Free entry |
| Panthers and Charlotte FC tree lighting | Bank of America Stadium | Not announced as of late October | Free with a mobile ticket in 2025 |
The European Market Now Sells Inside the Festival
The Christmas Village explains the change on its own website: "After 7 years of making Christmas memories in Uptown Charlotte as an authentic European market, we have transitioned to become Charlotte's finest holiday pop-up retailer!"
The site lists two places to find its shops this season. Hans and Heidi's Holiday Haus will be at the Southern Christmas Show. Village Bakery and Hans and Heidi's Holiday Haus will both be at Light the Knights at Truist Field. QnotesCarolinas reports that the Southern Christmas Show runs November 11 to 22 at The Park Expo and Conference Center. That puts it outside Uptown, and it closes three days before Light the Knights opens.
The Knights list both Christmas Village shops in their festival market, alongside Nomads, LLC and Jacob & Mabrey's Gourmet Cotton Candy. An admission-only ticket covers the concourse walkthrough and the holiday market, so $14.37 gets you to the bakery counter. For an Uptown resident, a few gift purchases and a pastry now cost an admission ticket and depend on the festival's schedule.
What a Truist Field Ticket Buys, and Which Nights It Does Not
This is the seventh annual Light the Knights. The Knights describe an NHL-size outdoor rink with skyline views, sponsored by Circle K, and a 10-lane, 150-foot snow tubing hill in right field, sponsored by Atrium Health Levine Children's. There is also a walkthrough with themed areas such as Christmas Tree Lane, Winter Wonderland and Santa's workshop, plus a light show choreographed to holiday music.
The prices follow a few rules:
- Admission only costs $14.37 and covers the walkthrough, the market and field access. It does not include skating or tubing.
- The all-activities pass costs $44.40 and adds skating and tubing. The two are not sold separately.
- Season passes cost $44 for admission only and $134 for all activities. Both are valid on every open day.
- All-activities tickets are capped. Once a night sells out, only admission tickets remain, online and at the box office.
- There is no re-entry.
A season pass pays off on the fourth visit. Three single admissions come to $43.11, just under the $44 pass. Three all-activities tickets come to $133.20, just under the $134 pass. For someone who lives within walking distance and plans to stop in for the market more than three times, the pass costs less.
The schedule has gaps. The Knights' ticket calendar lists these open dates: November 25, November 27 to 29, December 3 to 6, December 10 to 13, December 17 to 23, December 26 to 31, and January 1 to 3. That makes 28 dates in all. The festival is closed on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. In the first three weeks of December, it is also closed early in the week: December 1 and 2, December 7 to 9, and December 14 to 16. From December 17 through December 23, it is open every day.
November 25 Brings the Parade and Opening Night
On Wednesday, November 25, the parade and the festival's first night happen at the same time. The Novant Health Thanksgiving Eve Parade comes back to Tryon Street that evening, and its official site bills this year's event as the 80th annual parade. Charlotte Center City Partners produces it. The organizers say it is the fourth-largest parade of its kind in the country and the biggest in the Southeast. They report 100,000 live spectators and 1 million household viewers in 2023.
The parade's reserved seating page gives a 5:45 p.m. step-off. A Queen City Today guide updated October 25 lists 5:30 p.m. and says the parade ends around 8 p.m. If you are claiming curb space, the earlier time is safer. WCCB broadcasts it live from 6 to 8 p.m.
Here is where to stand:
- Free viewing. The organizers suggest lining Tryon Street from 9th Street to Brooklyn Village Avenue.
- VIP bleachers. Tickets are $40, and the seats run along Tryon from Brooklyn Village Avenue to Good Samaritan Way. A ticket guarantees a bleacher seat. Within each section, seating is first come, first served.
- Children 2 and under get in free if they sit on a guardian's lap.
Light the Knights opens that same night. That is the only open date before the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. If you want to watch the parade and then skate, buy the all-activities ticket ahead of time. The Knights say directly that there is no guarantee those tickets will be available on the day. If you plan to use the rink only once this season, a parade-night visit puts the parade crowd and the festival's opening-night crowd on the same evening. On the Friday through Sunday after Thanksgiving, you still get Light the Knights without the parade crowd.
The Free Week Starts on a Night the Ballpark Is Closed
One week after the parade, the Uptown Holiday Market returns to the Legacy Union Plaza turf at 620 S. Tryon Street. This is its fourth year, and Coca-Cola Consolidated presents it.
| Day | Hours |
|---|---|
| Wednesday, Dec. 2 | Noon to 8 p.m. |
| Thursday, Dec. 3 | Noon to 8 p.m. |
| Friday, Dec. 4 | Noon to 8 p.m. |
| Saturday, Dec. 5 | 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. |
The market runs daily features, including a Letters to Santa mailbox, the Jolly Line telephone and a Doors of Christmas advent calendar.
The two schedules fit together. December 2, the market's opening day, is one of the dates Light the Knights is closed. That day, the Tryon Street market is the only one of the two holiday markets open, and it costs nothing to enter. From Thursday, December 3 through Saturday, December 5, both are open, so a resident can visit the free market at lunch and the ticketed one at Truist Field in the evening. After December 5, the free market closes, and the festival market at Truist Field carries on through January 3.
The One Date Still Missing
The Carolina Panthers and Charlotte FC hold the best-known tree lighting in Uptown at Bank of America Stadium. As of October 25, Queen City Today reported that the 2026 date had not been announced. Last year's event shows what to expect. The Panthers announced the 12th annual tree lighting, presented by Belk, for Tuesday, November 18, 2025. Entry was free but required a mobile ticket. The 2025 announcement appeared on October 29, so the 2026 details may come out soon after this post publishes. If you want to go, claim the free mobile ticket as soon as it is released.
- Now. Decide whether you will visit Truist Field more than three times. If so, a season pass costs less than single tickets.
- Before November 25. Buy all-activities tickets for parade night if you plan to skate or tube, and choose between a free spot on Tryon and a $40 bleacher seat.
- December 2. The Uptown Holiday Market opens on a night Light the Knights is closed.
- December 17 to 23. Light the Knights is open every night that week, which makes it the best window for last-minute gifts from Village Bakery and Hans & Heidi's Holiday Haus.
- Ongoing. Watch for the Panthers and Charlotte FC to announce the tree lighting.
Event nights affect daily life in Uptown, and the 2026 schedule puts much of the season's foot traffic around Tryon Street and Truist Field.
